The Good Samaritan : Illustration

Posted by Aj

As i was researching and looking around to get a deeper insight into the style i wanted to have in the animation i came across a group called "rethinkgroup". They focus on helping kids and students by holding seminars which help improve daily life. They are a christian group that focus on helping people have a better quality of life via their ministry. I saw a poster that was created for one of the seminars which was based on the moral from the parable 'The good samaritan'. Which talked to people about how they can use the same principles used thousand's of years ago, in today's modern life and help others in need.

I really loved this illustration and the style being used in this poster, i think the colours and tones really suit the whole story and scenery. I am  looking to form a style based on this poster for my animation. I am still not sure if i should give the parable a modern twist or  to portray it as it was originally said.

Transcription Unit

Well a lot of ideas and thoughts have been running through my mind within the last few weeks. in regard to this project. However I am having a hard time trying to hit the spot on a idea so far. I really think this project is going to be a fresh opportunity for me to show my real potential and skill set.

This week's tutorial with Allan was enlightening, as I figured that my initial idea did not have a strong background or style. So I had a hard think and came up with an idea to take a story from "The Bible" and make it into a Short Animation. The Bible has a solid background and abundant history. As a child I was often told by my parents about the story of "The Good Samaritan". Thus I am thinking of taking this idea forward and developing a solid concept on how to approach this unit successfully.

For those of who arent familiar with this parable told by Jesus in the bible here it is:
"A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, 'Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return."

It's a well known story among many people and there are hundreds of paintings and illustrations done on this parable. I am hoping to base my style on one particular illustration, currently I am going through different ones to really try and develop a style of my own. It's a bit late to really but i am passionate to find a strong sense of style and direction of my own for this project.

Any ideas and thoughts would be most welcome as I can use all the help I can get to really nail this idea!
